The Right One Myth

My Home

Post here.

GraMarjie's Coffee Cake

Are you ready for the most amazing, moist, delicious coffee cake you have ever eaten!?

Okay, maybe I'm a little bias, however, my mother's family will back me up. This is my grandmother's recipe, that has been lovingly made more times than I can count. I remember sitting around her breakfast table on Sunday mornings to eat this glorious creation, before we would all head to church. Without fail, this coffee cake was a Sunday morning tradition in her house, and that tradition has now been passed on to her 7 children and 24 grandchildren.

The best part about this recipe is... it is EASY! This coffee cake can be whipped up in 30min. You will fool everyone into thinking that you rose at the break of dawn to procure this tasty morsel. The secret is in the "sour milk" or Buttermilk. Now, don't turn your nose up until you try it! It is what makes this coffee cake so moist and delicious... it's chemistry people! This coffee cake is perfect for any time or occasion, but no matter what, make sure you serve it warm with a small pat of butter on top (this is only because of how amazing it tastes ;)

Here's how it goes:

Mix flour, sugar, salt, and butter until crumbly; reserve 1/2 cup.

Combine baking powder, baking soda, and spices; add to remaining crumbs.

You can either buy Buttermilk, or make your own "sour milk" at home (my preferred option).
Pour 2 Tbsp White Vinegar into a measuring cup, and then add milk to make 1 complete cup of liquid; let sit for 2min and boom... "sour milk."

Mix eggs into milk, and then pour into dry mixture, combining well.

Pour into 2 greased and floured cake pans, and top with reserved crumbs.
Bake at 375 for 25 min.  Yields 2 coffee cakes.
